Stop and ask yourself — can this be an email?

Oh — you were expecting a full article here?! Nope. No, it’s actually really simple. That’s…..that’s it.

Let’s move away from thinking meetings are necessary to connect with people. Let’s start being more cognizant of other’s people time and their productivity.

Maybe we don’t need 8 people to sit on a “status report” just so they can “hear” what’s going on. Chances are they’re zoning out anyway.

Type it up! Email it to people. And if you really need to, look to have a 15min one-on-one if a person is struggling. You can also…

Use math to measure a meeting’s worth

8 people on a 1hr meeting is 8hrs of productivity.
4 people on a 30min meeting is 2hrs of productivity. What more could your team have accomplished in 2hrs?

Need a little more motivation on it — here’s a video from almost 10yrs ago of Basecamp CEO, Jason Fried, saying this exact same thing.

It’s nothing new, we just need to do it. And with the opportunity to build a new work-future for ourselves, now is the time to start putting these tactics into place.
