Including Community Effort of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Person of the Year — here is a list of some of the best things 2020 had to offer.

10) Ad of the year

Match.com’s Satan Commercial

Imaginative, well-done, great story. Just…everything we love in an ad.

9) App of the year

Dropbox Paper

For the 2nd year in a row, this system’s flexibility as a communication tool is unprecedented. Here are 12 reasons to consider Dropbox Paper for project management.

8) Movie of the year

The Social Dilemma

Social networks have created digital nicotine. This movie highlights how they use your behaviors for profit. Greatest lesson to take away, if you’re not paying for the product you are the product.

7) Book of the year

Competing Against Luck
Needed now more than ever, as millions of businesses look to innovate, this book by Harvard Business Professor Clay Christensen holds the key.

6) TV Series of the year

Tiger King

The series is an example of two things. First, be careful what you wish for. You may get what you’ve always wanted, but you may be in jail when it comes. And second, timing is everything. While the series took years to make, it debuted at just the right time.

5) Greatest Disappointment of the Year

Trump’s Handling of the Coronavirus

The more you know about leadership and communication, the more you see about awful Trump handled everything. At its core, we have someone who refused to lead by example, made masks a political issue, and put hundreds of thousands of lives at risk unnecessarily. Just…fuck.

4) Artist of the Year

Chance the Rapper

Named artist of the year because of his work in the community through SocialWorks, we also have to highlight this virtual concert that was so. beautifully. done.

3) Video of the Year

The more we understand that we can’t understand, the better the future we can start to build for ourselves and our communities. As a nation, we still have a lot of stuff to work on this decade and it’s going to take all of us to help.

2) Community Effort of the Year

John Krasinski’s “Some Good News”

A video series created with great content in mind. Put together on a low budget. Easily repeatable for people all over the world. It’s fantastic! He made a template for reporting on the good news in your area — an approach I hope more businesses incorporate into their marketing in 2021.

1) Person of the Year

Leo Manzione

After seeing an article about my mother being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, Leo reached out to see how he could help. One of those ways was a long shot, but he believed he might be able to get me in touch with someone at the Seacrest Foundation. That maaaaaybe they could do a little something for the online music competition we created.

And they did.

Leo and I have become better friends throughout the year. I’m excited to team up as we work together to help Nice Guys Delivery find new ways to bring cannabis delivery to Northern California in 2021.

Leo, thank you. We appreciate you. You were selfless, going above and beyond to help someone you barely knew. Ecstatic to call you a friend and thank you for being Martin Creative’s Person of the Year.
